Session Rationale and Overview
The rapid growth of urban populations and the increasing complexity of modern cities have created an urgent need for intelligent, scalable, and sustainable solutions. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a key enabling technology to transform traditional urban infrastructures into smart, adaptive, and efficient city systems.
This Special Session focuses on the application of AI in smart cities, covering a wide spectrum of research from foundational techniques to real-world deployments. The session aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working on AI-driven applications, intelligent systems, and emerging technologies that address critical challenges in urban environments.
The scope includes AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, multimodal AI, large language models (LLMs), and generative AI, as well as their integration into smart city systems including transportation, energy, environment, healthcare, public safety, and urban services. In addition, the session highlights the role of intelligent infrastructures, such as IoT-enabled systems, cyber-physical systems, Digital Twins, and edge/cloud computing platforms, in enabling real-time decision-making and automation.
This topic is particularly timely as cities worldwide are adopting AI-driven digital transformation strategies, yet challenges remain in scalability, interoperability, data quality, privacy, and robustness under real-world constraints. Existing conference tracks often address AI methods or application domains separately, whereas this Special Session provides a unified platform bridging AI techniques with practical smart city applications and systems.
The session also encourages interdisciplinary contributions that integrate AI with communication networks (5G/6G), autonomous systems, and human-centered design, aiming to develop next-generation intelligent urban ecosystems.

She has authored and co-authored numerous publications in international journals and conferences, with contributions spanning AI-driven perception systems and multimodal learning. She is also actively involved in academic leadership and quality assurance activities, contributing to higher education evaluation and accreditation initiatives within VNU-HCM. With extensive experience supervising graduate students and leading research projects, she has played a key role in advancing interdisciplinary research that bridges AI, IoT, and cyber-physical systems.

Review and Management Process
Submission and Review
All submissions follow the standard RIVF 2026 submission guidelines and are peer-reviewed by at least two independent reviewers. The Programme Committee includes experts in AI, IoT, communications, and smart cities. Papers are assessed on originality, technical quality, relevance, clarity, and practical impact, and final decisions are made in coordination with the main conference committee.
Session Format
The session is planned as a half-day programme comprising four to six peer-reviewed paper presentations, one invited keynote talk, one invited talk from industry or academia, and an optional panel discussion.
Paper Submission
Papers must be original, unpublished work, formatted according to the IEEE conference template and the RIVF 2026 page limit. Submit through EDAS, making sure to select this Special Session track: EDAS Track SS1
At least one author of each accepted paper must register and present at the conference for the paper to be included in the proceedings.
