Session Rationale and Overview

As 5G networks reach maturity worldwide, the academic and industrial communities are turning their focus toward Sixth Generation (6G) wireless communication systems. Expected to deploy commercially around 2030, 6G will transcend traditional connectivity by seamlessly integrating physical, digital, and biological worlds through ultra-high data rates (>1 Tbps), microsecond-level latency, extreme energy efficiency, and pervasive intelligence.

Realizing this vision requires transformative technical innovations across multiple domains. Key enabling paradigms include Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), sub-THz/THz communication, advanced multi-antenna techniques (e.g., Extremely Large-Scale MIMO), AI/ML-native air interfaces, decentralized trust via blockchain, and resilient Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN).

This Special Session aims to bring together leading researchers, academic experts, and industry pioneers to discuss state-of-the-art breakthroughs, fundamental theoretical limits, hardware testbeds, and emerging applications for 6G networks. By providing a dedicated platform at IEEE-RIVF 2026, this session will foster interdisciplinary dialogue and facilitate international collaborations in next-generation wireless communications.

Topics of Interest

We invite original, unpublished research contributions on theoretical developments, algorithm design, hardware prototyping, and system-level evaluations. Topics include, but are not limited to:

Advanced Wireless and Physical Layer Technologies

  • Sub-THz and Terahertz (THz) communications
  • Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) architectures and waveform design
  • Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) and holographic MIMO
  • Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and satellite-terrestrial integration

Signal Processing and Antenna Techniques

  • Extremely Large-Scale MIMO (XL-MIMO) and ultra-massive antenna arrays
  • Beamforming, channel estimation, and spatial multiplexing in near-field regimes
  • Energy-efficient and green signal processing algorithms

AI and Machine Learning for 6G

  • AI-native physical and MAC layer optimizations
  • Federated Learning and distributed edge AI in wireless networks
  • Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) for network orchestration and management

Decentralized Systems and Security

  • Blockchain and smart contracts for decentralized 6G resource allocation
  • Physical Layer Security (PLS) and quantum-safe communications in 6G
  • Trust, privacy, and resilience in ultra-dense network architectures

Review and Management Process

Submission and Review

All paper submissions to this Special Session are managed via the conference submission portal (EDAS). Every paper undergoes the standard, rigorous peer-review process governed by IEEE standards, with a minimum of two independent reviewer reports per paper.

Quality Control

Papers accepted for this Special Session must meet the high-quality standards of IEEE-RIVF. Accepted and presented papers will be submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore.

Expected Submissions

The organizers anticipate 8 to 12 targeted submissions from key research groups in Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore, and the United Kingdom, targeting a single or double presentation session of 4 to 6 papers per session block.

Paper Submission

Papers must be original, unpublished work, formatted according to the IEEE conference template and the RIVF 2026 page limit. Submit through EDAS, making sure to select this Special Session track: EDAS Track SS3

At least one author of each accepted paper must register and present at the conference for the paper to be included in the proceedings.
